About Us

The NGUVU Edu SPORT Program is a non-profit organization, which was founded in 2014 by Lothar Firlej, a volunteer from Germany, who has a deep heart for better development of disadvantaged children and youths of Gachororo village, Juja Constituency in Kenya.

The programme’s main objective is to equip socially disadvantaged children and young people with modern, holistic learning and personal development skills. The programme uses football and other sporting activities as a tool for instilling life skills and positive values such as respect, tolerance and fair play. Target beneficiaries include:

  • Children from economically disadvantaged families
  • HIV/AIDS orphans, infected and affected children
  • Street children from dysfunctional homes
  • Existing orphans from Emmanuel Center, St. Monica and St. Mary’s Children Homes
  • Close to 2,000 refugees from South Sudan living in Juja, as well as their children and youths
  • Children and other young people living in Juja

The programme also seeks to enhance the learning experiences of beneficiaries through sporting activities as a way to promote and strengthen children and youths for a better future.

The programme’s proximity to, and good relationships with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), has enabled the programme to offer youths and children in Juja exposure through holding some of the sporting activities within the university. This has been an important way of creating better relations between the university and local community in Gachororo.

Message from JKUAT

As a university we are obliged and pleased to be associated with this project. We take it as part of our CSR. We are particularly interested with its objective of inculcating life skills and general education to the young kids in the local community and of course sports skills which we value alot. We will continue to support the project by providing venues for competition and training, and also evaluation of the project just to make sure that its objectives and goals are realised. Long live NGUVU Edu SPORT.

  • With the “NGUVU Edu SPORT” Program, we want to hold more Events with “Life-Skills” and adventure camps during school holidays.
  • We want to cooperate with neighboring schools and the University of JKUAT, (project support), to integrate this program “NGUVU Edu SPORT” into their curriculum.
  • Another step is the creation of a street football league, after which the children and young people should take their own work and management.
  • Encourage the children and young people to take up roles such as game planning, refereeing, programme leadership, result management and League management.
  • After each school year, each participant’s academic performance will be assessed to gauge the impact of the programme on the participants.
  • The evaluation will be done in collaboration with a University.
  • We wish to grow the Street Football League to cater for more participants.
  • Run exchange programmes with other soccer leagues and organizations.
  • Incorporate students and volunteers to benefit from the experiences of the programme management. Seek more sponsorship and other forms of support for the “NGUVU Edu SPORT” programme to finance its expanded range of activities

Message from Hon. Francis M. Waititu, MP, Juja Constituency

JUJA Constituency is honoured and proud to be home to NGUVU Edu SPORT.  The project goes in line with our constituency youth support initiatives whereby we sponsor sports and talent activities. Education through sports is a unique way of learning, since it includes important life skills. Such skills that include patience, tolerance, teamwork and even basic knowledge/education help a lot even towards reducing crime in the society. JUJA constituency office through the Constituency Development Fund committee (C.D.F) will continue to support the project where need arises and endeavour to see the whole NGUVU team achieve its goals and objectives. God bless JUJA and NGUVU Edu SPORT.
